"Ask for release": Ex-Indian player advises KL Rahul amid Rishabh Pant trade talks

Ahead of the IPL 2027 season, Rishabh Pant, as per reports, is set to rejoin Delhi Capitals through a trade between LSG and DC. The dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, who spent the last two seasons with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), is expected to make a return to the franchise, with the talks between the two franchises progressing smoothly. The proposed exchange involves Rishabh Pant and left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Pant's return would be an emotional homecoming for the Delhi franchise because he has previously captained the side.
Meanwhile, the development has also triggered discussions about the future of KL Rahul at Delhi Capitals. Former India and Karnataka fast bowler Dodda Ganesh has urged KL Rahul to consider entering the IPL auction if Pant returns to Delhi Capitals.
"KL Rahul should ask for release and go to the auction if Pant comes back," Dodda Ganesh posted on X.
Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul had very different campaigns during the 2026 IPL season. Pant endured a difficult campaign at Lucknow Super Giants, managing to score 312 runs throughout the tournament. Not only Pant, but LSG also struggled, finishing at the bottom in the points table. Following the disappointing season, Pant also stepped down from the captaincy, bringing an end to a challenging run at LSG.
KL Rahul, meanwhile, enjoyed one of the most productive seasons of his IPL career, accumulating 593 runs in 14 matches while maintaining an impressive strike rate of 174.41. His tremendous performance came at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where he scored a breathtaking unbeaten 152 against Punjab Kings.
