Mohammad Kaif questions the management after Sooryavanshi's absence in Ireland T20Is

Former India batter Mohammed Kaif has criticised the Indian team management after teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was left out of the playing XI during India's two-match T20I series against Ireland. The decision has garnered tremendous opprobrium after India's disappointing 2-0 series defeat. This is the first time Ireland have beaten India in an international series. Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi is high on confidence following a sensational IPL 2026 season where the young opener enjoyed a remarkable campaign, finishing as the tournament's leading run-scorer with 776 runs.
“If you were making the best XI, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's name should have been there. The logic given was that this is a World Cup-winning team and that we would proceed with the same XI. And Vaibhav will have to wait. Logic, that's a very fine logic but you have to persist with that logic," Kaif said on his YouTube channel.
"Well, Rohit Sharma was the Champions Trophy-winning captain. Next time, he was removed as the captain, and it was said that the team was moving towards youngsters. We need a young captain. Suryakumar Yadav, another World Cup-winning captain, was dropped. It was said we are looking towards the future," he added.
Kaif further said that Sooryavanshi dominated the IPL 2026, and if the management is looking towards the future, then Sooryavanshi is waiting.
“If you are looking at the future and there is a 15-year-old boy. Sooryavanshi is coming on the back of runs. He is the Orange Cap winner in the IPL. He almost broke Chris Gayle's record,” said Kaif.
