"My commitment to English cricket has never wavered": Brendon McCullum

England cricket team's head coach Brendon McCullum has categorically said that his commitment to the team remains as strong as ever, putting aside any doubts about his future despite the mounting criticism surrounding the Test side. There have been questions regarding his position after England's disappointing home Test series defeat to New Zealand and the shock retirement of captain Ben Stokes. But quashing doubts, McCullum said that his commitment to the role has not dwindled.
McCullum, who took charge of England's Test team in 2022, was recently handed responsibilities to include the ODI and T20I sides. Moreover, he remains under contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) until the conclusion of the 2027 Ashes.
"My enthusiasm for English cricket and my commitment to English cricket has never wavered. I've got a firm belief in the direction that this team can go. I feel like Lord's was a great example of some improvements, to be able to handle pressure when pressure arose, and to be able to tactically implement some players as well, which will make us a more rounded team rather than just a talented cricket team," McCullum told Sky Sports.
England's 2-1 loss to New Zealand was their first home defeat in a three-match Test series since 2012. Meanwhile, McCullum is determined not to keep thinking about the setback.
"The second Test was difficult for a number of reasons, and here we were outplayed in a tough contest by a good New Zealand side. We still have an identity about us, but we want to continue to furnish and harness that to get us in a direction that we are the team that we want to be. The talent that sits within this country is immense. My belief and my commitment to English cricket has never wavered throughout."
