Virat Kohli pays tribute to Sir Garfield Sobers

Indian batting star Virat Kohli honoured the West Indies great Sir Garfield Sobers, who died at the age of 89. Sharing his condolences on X, Kohli reflected on Sobers' huge contribution to cricket and highlighted the enduring impact he has had on generations of players. 

"Cricket has lost one of its greatest. Rest in peace, Sir Garfield Sobers. Your legacy will inspire generations," Kohli wrote.

The legendary cricketer, regarded as ‌one of cricket's greatest all-rounders, showcased his exceptional brilliance with both bat and ball in an international career that spanned two decades. Sir Garfield represented West Indies in 93 Test matches from 1954 to 1974, scoring 8,032 runs at a brilliant average of 57.78. 

His batting achievements included 26 Test centuries, while as a bowler he claimed 235 wickets. One of the defining moments of his career came in 1958 when he crafted an unbeaten 365 against Pakistan. At the time, that was the highest individual score in Test cricket for 36 years until Brian Lara broke it. Sir Garfield Sobers was also named among the inaugural inductees into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2009.
