"No doubt Rohit will work it out": Morne Morkel backs Rohit Sharma's experience

Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel has expressed unwavering faith in Rohit Sharma, saying that the veteran opener continues to play a vital role in the team's batting setup. Morkel's comments come amid questions over Rohit's form in the ongoing ODI series against England, where he has managed scores of 11 and 26 in the opening two matches.

Morkel also believed that those numbers do not reflect the challenge faced by opening batters in the current conditions. There also remain conversations about Rohit's place in India's plans leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup, but Morkel made it clear that experience remains one of the opener's greatest strengths. Notably, India will face England in the third and final ODI on Sunday at Lord's.

"It is hard work with a new ball up front. We’ve seen in the entire series that the ball is moving around. Batting up front is not easy. No doubt Rohit will work it out," Morkel said at the press conference.

"He has done it in the past; he is experienced. And he just brings that calmness to the batting line-up. So without a doubt, no worries and concerns at all with the way he is going about things."

Morkel also backed the Indian batter to perform well in tricky conditions at Lord's.

"If you look at our top, top middle-order, they have played a lot of cricket, and they are very experienced.

"I think they are very well aware of some of the conditions and how to form partnerships, and that is going to be the key. In the last game, we looked pretty set to get to that 280-300 mark, but unfortunately lost a couple of wickets. The 50-over game is about partnerships, and if we can form that with bat and ball, it will be an exciting game for us."
