England all-rounder Jacob Bethell has been ruled out of the 2026 edition of The Hundred competition due to a knee injury suffered during the recently concluded ODI series against India. The 22-year-old, who was scheduled to lead Birmingham Phoenix, will now remain on the sidelines. South African wicketkeeper Donovan Ferreira will replace him as the Birmingham captain.

“The 22-year-old will continue his rehabilitation programme under the guidance of the ECB medical team and is expected to focus on his recovery over the coming weeks,” the franchise said in a statement.

Bethell was in scorching form in the final ODI against India, blasting 91 runs to contribute to England's big total. Meanwhile, Bethell will now race against time to be fit for England's test series against Pakistan, which is scheduled to begin on 19 August.
