Suryakumar Yadav backs Abhishek Sharma amid difficult run of form
Former India captain Suryakumar Yadav has backed opener Abhishek Sharma, believing that the talented batter has what it takes to bounce back. Abhishek Sharma is currently going through a challenging period, having struggled to find consistency in recent outings. His recent performances have been disappointing, as he has failed to register double-digit scores in his last four matches.
More worryingly, he could manage only 11 runs in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The slump in form has also put him under the spotlight. Amid the scrutiny, Abhishek recently addressed the situation in a message on Instagram, admitting that his performances had not been up to the standards.
"It hurts when you can’t give back what so many people believe you’re capable of. But this game always rewards those who keep showing up. Happy that the team got the win. Will be back stronger," Abhishek wrote on Instagram.
On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav, who captained India to the T20 World Cup win earlier this year, backed Abhishek. Yadav reminding Abhishek that he has performed brilliantly over the past two years encouraged him to remain true to himself.
"You have given so many reasons to smile for 2 years in a row, boyyyy. Given glory to INDIA when it mattered the most. Matter of time. Be yourself," Suryakumar wrote.
