Yashasvi Jaiswal joins elite club with incredible record
Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal recorded a massive milestone in his Test career during the opening Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Saturday. When India captain Shubman Gill decided to bat first, Jaiswal walked out to make his 30th Test appearance. The occasion was incredibly special in terms of the venue because just like his previous 29 Tests, this match was being played at a ground where Jaiswal had never featured in a Test before.
That meant Jaiswal had played all 30 of his Tests at different venues. With this he joined the company of former Indian cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Sachin Tendulkar. Sanjay Manjrekar holds the record in this category, having appeared in 33 successive Tests at different venues.
Sachin Tendulkar also began his Test career with like this, playing his first 32 matches at different venues. However, his stay at the crease ended at 32 following a misunderstanding with KL Rahul that resulted in a run-out. Meanwhile, at stumps on day one, India reached 288/2, with Padikkal unbeaten on 131* and Rishabh Pant on 27*.
