Pakistan captain Babar Azam down with fever amid tumultuous times
Pakistan have been experiencing a mountain of concerns in their ongoing tour of England, with everything going against them. The latest trouble to hit Pakistan is related to Test captain Babar Azam, who, according to GEO News, has fallen ill with a fever a few days ahead of the third Test at Edgbaston that is set to begin on September 9.
Babar’s illness comes at a chaotic moment for Pakistan because the team has already suffered two back-to-back defeats in the series. Following the defeat, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took a stern decision, making huge changes to the squad and coaching setup.
The board decided to release as many as seven players while also sidelining head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul. Among those released are notable names such as Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.
As reported by GEO News, Pakistan’s team manager Naveed Akram Cheema confirmed that there is no need to panic as Babar is expected to be fit ahead of the third Test. It has been a frustrating period for Babar Azam, who recently returned to the Test captaincy, replacing Shan Masood, but his comeback to the leadership role has begun amid an alarming run of results.
