Varun Chakravarthy ruled out of Japan T20I and Asian Games
In a big setback for team India ahead of their upcoming major assignments, spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out of both the one-off T20I against Japan and the Asian Games after picking up a side strain, the BCCI confirmed. Chakravarthy suffered the injury during India's opening T20I against Afghanistan in Delhi.
It was sort of unfortunate as well because he had just made his return to competitive cricket after recovering from a hamstring problem. Following the injury, Chakravarthy was expected to miss the rest of the Afghanistan series but to be fit for the Asian Games. Meanwhile, India have handed a maiden international call-up to young leg-spin-bowling all-rounder Vipraj Nigam, who has been in the squad as a replacement for Chakravarthy.
