Hasan Mahmud joins Nathan Lyon in elite list following five-wicket haul against West Indies

Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud, who has been making waves with his strangling bowling attack, churned out a stunning performance against West Indies, claiming six wickets in the first innings of the ongoing second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday. Mahmud finished with massive figures of 6/90 on Day 2, playing a crucial role in helping Bangladesh wrap up West Indies for 356.
With these impressive figures, he becoming only the second bowler in Test history after Australian veteran Nathan Lyon to claim his first five five-wicket hauls in five different countries. Mahmud's previous four five-wicket hauls came against Pakistan (Rawalpindi, 2024), India (Chennai, 2024), Australia (Darwin, 2026) and Afghanistan (Abu Dhabi, 2026).
Notably, he was very much instrumental during Bangladesh's historic Test victory over Australia in Darwin, with a memorable spell of 6/55. On the other hand, Lyon's first five Test five-wicket hauls were in Sri Lanka (5/34 vs Sri Lanka, 2011), West Indies (5/68 vs West Indies, 2012), India (7/94 vs India, 2013), Australia (5/50 vs England, Melbourne, 2013) and South Africa (5/130 vs South Africa, 2014).
