In a high-voltage face-off that lived up to its historic rivalry, Indian batters and bowlers combined brilliantly to script a commanding 61-run victory over Pakistan in a one-sided T20I World Cup match on Sunday in Colombo. The huge dominance by India against Pakistan also helped them secure their third straight win of the tournament. After being asked to bat, India posted a competitive total of 175/7 in 20 overs. The innings was smartly anchored by a tremendous knock from Ishan Kishan, whose aggressive 77 off 40 deliveries set the tone.

Kishan's fearless hitting helped India maintain momentum through the middle overs after Abhishek Sharma lost his wicket for a duck. There were useful contributions from Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, smashing 25 and 32, respectively. Shivam Dubey chipped in with a valuable 27, providing the late acceleration that pushed India to a good total. Though Pakistan managed to pick up wickets at intervals, they were unable to stem the flow of runs completely as India batters sharply outplayed Pakistan.

Chasing 176 under pressure, Pakistan faltered from the outset after they lost their reliable openers Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub for 0 and 6, respectively. India’s bowlers, particularly the spinners, seized control and never allowed the opposition to settle, with Axar Patel getting rid of Babar Azam. Pakistan went down to 34/4 early in the innings as India’s bowlers struck in quick succession, putting an end to any hopes of a steady chase. India’s brutal attack with key strikes from Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel peeled off crucial wickets during the powerplay phase. Captain Salman Ali Agha and key batsmen like Babar Azam and Saim Ayub could not forge partnerships, leaving Pakistan in massive turmoil.

Usman Khan attempted to revive the chase with an aggressive counterattack, smashing 44 runs in a spirited effort. However, his dismissal while trying to accelerate further effectively ended Pakistan’s hopes. Once he departed, the resistance faded quickly, and Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs.
