Group D of the T20I World Cup reaches a major juncture as New Zealand and Canada are facing off in a high-stakes clash in Chennai. This encounter is crucial for New Zealand to win to carve a smooth path to the Super Eight stage. However, the major talking point ahead of the match remained the absence of regular captain Mitchell Santner, who has been ruled out after falling ill.

In his place, experienced all-rounder Daryl Mitchell is leading the side. Daryl Mitchell confirmed at the toss that Santner is out due to illness, and he is expected to return to full fitness for the next game. While New Zealand are aiming to consolidate their position, Canada have nothing to lose and everything to gain. A victory for the associate nation would surely disrupt Group D, throwing qualification calculations into disarray. Meanwhile, Canada have made a blistering start after deciding to bat, reaching 116/1 in 14 overs.

"Mitch had a bit of a dodgy burger last night, and he's not feeling too great today, so hopefully he's good to go in 24 hours," Daryl Mitchell said at the toss.

CAN playing XI: Yuvraj Samra, Dilpreet Bajwa(c), Navneet Dhaliwal, Harsh Thaker, Nicholas Kirton, Shreyas Movva (wk), Saad Bin Zafar, Shivam Sharma, Dilon Heyliger, Jaskaran Singh, Ansh Patel
