England captain and star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt has been ruled out of the side's upcoming group-stage matches of the ongoing Women's T20I World Cup due to a recurring calf injury, according to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). She experienced discomfort in her left calf during England's victory over Ireland in Southampton on Tuesday. Sciver-Brunt was batting in rhythm and was on an unbeaten 48 when she was forced to leave the field after feeling tightness in the same muscle that troubled her earlier this year during county cricket.

"Following a scan on Wednesday and further assessment by the England medical team, she will be unavailable for the next two fixtures against Scotland and West Indies," the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.

"Sciver-Brunt will continue to be monitored and assessed by the England medical team as she undertakes her rehab while remaining in the squad."

Medical examinations carried out after the match confirmed that the injury is another calf strain, prompting England's management to take this call. In Sciver-Brunt's absence, England will be led by Charlie Dean.

The injury comes as a frustrating development for both Sciver-Brunt and England.

Recently, she had returned to action after recovering from the previous strain and was available for warm-up matches against Australia and India. However, she was limited to batting duties during those games as the team carefully monitored her fitness.
