"You have got to feel for Yashasvi": Ex-Indian cricketer on Jaiswal being overlooked for England ODIs

India omitted in-form batter Yashasvi Jiswal from their squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England next month. Jaiswal delivered a jaw-dropping performance in the final ODI series against Afghanistan, spanking 110 unbeaten to help India clean sweep the series 3-0. Despite him being in a scorching form, the selectors decided to overlook the young batter.

In the ODI series against Afghanistan, Jaiswal, who sat out the first game, was included in the playing XI in the second game, but he failed to impress, falling for four runs. However, he responded emphatically in the final game with a confident knock. Meanwhile, speaking on Jaiswal's absence, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra felt that the left-hand batter is not in the scheme of things.

"You've got to feel for Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has played a handful of matches and has scored two centuries. He scored a century in the last match against South Africa and was dropped for the next series. He scored a century in the last match against Afghanistan now and has been dropped for the next series," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"What more can I do? He will ask that question of himself for sure, but this is what it is. Shubman Gill is there with Rohit Sharma. Ishan Kishan provides you with multiple options. He is a keeper, a backup middle-order (batsman), and a backup opener as well. You can make him play at no. 3 or no. 4. He is one guy who fits everywhere. However, you have got to feel for Yashasvi. He can only score runs. He is scoring runs, but his name is still not coming," he added.

Notably, Jaiswal was included in India's squad for the Afghanistan series as a replacement for Virat Kohli, who had been ruled out of the series due to injury. Meanwhile, Kohli is back in the side for the England series; however, his participation remains subject to fitness.

India ODI squad for England tour: Shubman Gill (c), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vc), KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Gurnoor Brar.
