South Africa batter Jason Smith ruled out of T20I series in Namibia

South Africa have been handed an injury setback ahead of their white-ball tour of Namibia, with middle-order batter Jason Smith ruled out of the upcoming T20I series after picking up an adductor muscle strain. Smith was part of South Africa’s squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup and was expected to play a major role during Namibia tour; however, the injury has now put him out of the series.
Smith has featured for South Africa in 11 T20Is and three ODIs. South Africa have decided against calling up a replacement. leaving the remaining batters to shoulder greater responsibility during the T20I leg. The injury means Smith will miss the T20I matches in Namibia, but his involvement in the three-match ODI series, which is scheduled to begin on September 9, will be decided on the basis of medical assessment.
