CPL 2026: Imran Tahir creates history with impeccable spell
The legendary spinner Imran Tahir has accomplished a remarkable milestone with his sensational performance in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL), becoming the oldest player to take a five-wicket haul in men's T20 cricket. The 47-year-old star, delivering an impressive spell for Guyana Amazon Warriors during the match against Saint Lucia Kings on Thursday, claimed impeccable figures of 5/17 to help his side bowl Lucia Kings out for 119 in 18.5 overs. Tahir’s victims were Kamil Pooran, Roston Chase, McKenny Clarke, Matthew Forde, and Joshua Bishop.
Earlier, deciding to bat, Lucia Kings got off to a solid start with Kamil Pooran firing a blistering knock of 43. However, the game took a drastic turn for Lucia Kings after they lost seven wickets for 19 runs, with Imran Tahir and Melody Hasan Miraz coming out with masterclass bowling performances. Their impressive spells didn’t allow Lucia Kings to post a big total.
Meanwhile, a fiery cameo from Obus Pienaar, tonking 35 off 28, gave the Kings something to defend. Chasing the target, the Guyana Amazon Warriors had to fight hard following a massive resistance from the Kings' bowlers. Despite the struggle, Warriors raced to victory in 18.3 overs to claim the top spot in the points table.
