India overcome New Zealand in rain-affected 2nd ODI

India overcame New Zealand by four runs (DLS) in a rain-interrupted second ODI in Wellington to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series on Saturday. Much of the proceedings was disrupted by frequent showers, and rain was the only reason that the start was by an hour, forcing the match to be shortened to 47 overs per side. On expected terms, Indian captain Shubman Gill had little hesitation in opting to bowl first after winning the toss, and his decision turned out to be fruitful as Indian pacers made full use of the conditions, bowling New Zealand out for 134.
Gurnoor Brar led India’s bowling attack, coming out with an amazing performance to claim a career-best figure of 4-30. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell played a superb knock of 55 after surviving an important chance on 21, when Gill put down a catch.
Chasing the target, India had a wobbly start following early dismissals of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. However, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, blazing 23 and 30 runs provided India a much-needed comeback.
Down the order, KL Rahul served as a major resistance with a crucial score of 26 unbeaten. Still, New Zealand appeared to have the upper hand when rain returned and brought the game to a halt in the 26th over. Meanwhile, the interruption proved successful for India, as there was not play due to persistent showers, making way for India’s four-run win.
