Michael Klinger has joined Welsh Fire, where he will assume the role of Head Coach for their Women's Hundred team for next year’s The Hundred 2026 season in England. Klinger takes on a dual role, as he will also serve in a senior management role. He currently serves as the General Manager of Cricket at the Washington Freedom in the Major League Cricket (MLC).

The former Australian batter, who retired from professional cricket in 2019, joins the side on a two-year deal. He will also be retaining his role of director of cricket at Washington Freedom. Klinger will be working closely with Welsh Fire’s general manager, Mark Wallace, and will oversee recruitment for both the men's and women's teams.

"I'm thrilled to be taking on an expanded role with Welsh Fire, leading list management for both the men's and women's teams, alongside being Head Coach of the Women's side,” Klinger was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

"I'd like to thank Manchester Originals for the opportunity to work with them last year. It was a fantastic and rewarding experience for which I'm very grateful. This new role allows me to combine coaching with a broader strategic focus and to continue strengthening my connections with the Washington Freedom organisation, as well as with the current management and coaches at Welsh Fire,” he added.
