Worcestershire have confirmed the signing of Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza as their overseas replacement for Ben Dwarshuis ahead of this season’s Vitality Blast campaign. Australia seamer Dwarshuis played a significant role for Worcestershire in last year’s competition. He claimed 18 wickets in the Blast and added valuable lower-order runs. The club had expected him to return in 2026, but he was withdrawn from his deal by Cricket Australia.

The decision followed Dwarshuis’ signing with Punjab Kings, the Indian Premier League side coached by Ricky Ponting, during the recent IPL auction. Raza, Zimbabwe’s captain and a seasoned campaigner in global T20 leagues, will join for the duration of the Blast.

“I am delighted to be joining Worcestershire Rapids this summer and to be playing in a T20 competition that I really enjoy. I have loved my time in England whenever I have played there previously, so I can’t wait to get started this summer and link up with the squad," Raza said in a club's release.

Worcestershire's head coach Alan Richardson lauded Sikandar's quality.

“Sikandar’s stats in T20 cricket speak for themself and as a side who want to kick on in the Vitality Blast and challenge for the trophy, we know the importance of having real quality in key areas."

“With Ben (Dwarshuis) unable to join us, we wanted to make sure that we had someone with international pedigree and who can impact the game in in all three facets, so we were very keen to get Sikandar on board as soon as we knew he was available.”

Raza, a dynamic middle-order batter and a clever off-spinner, has played over 300 T20 games across several franchises, including the Indian Premier League and the Caribbean Premier League, making him a vital figure for Worcestershire.
