Australia’s preparations for the T20I series against New Zealand have taken a significant hit, with star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell ruled out after sustaining a fractured right wrist during a training session in Mount Maunganui. The injury occurred when Maxwell was struck by a powerful straight drive from Mitchell Owen while bowling in the nets.

Following the injury, Maxwell has been sent home and will see a specialist in the coming days. Josh Philippe is set to replace Maxwell in the squad for the three-match series against New Zealand. The latest setback adds to Australia’s growing list of injury concerns ahead of Australia's crucial assignments. Recently, Australia lost Josh Inglis to a right calf strain.

Meanwhile, Australia will take on New Zealand in the first of three T20Is on Wednesday at Bay Oval. This is not the first time injuries have interrupted Maxwell’s involvement in key series. The all-rounder has faced several setbacks in recent years. His absence is a major blow to the Australian lineup.
