"We have ticked a lot of boxes": Suryakumar Yadav ahead of Super 8
India captain Suryakumar Yadav said his side has ticked almost all the boxes in the group stage after India stormed into the Super 8 of the Men's T20 World Cup unbeaten. Reflecting on their hard-fought victory over Netherlands, the skipper expressed satisfaction with the team’s all-round performance. India sealed a 17-run win over Netherlands on Wednesday, registering their fourth consecutive victory to finish atop Group A.
"We have ticked a lot of boxes. Even when you win, you learn something out of it. We have learnt in few areas," Yadav said at the post-match presentation.
"We wanted to bat first, went on to score 190. There was a bit of dew, a little challenging for the bowlers, but all in all, at the end of the day very happy."
The Indian top order faced early resistance from Netherlands off-spinner Aryan Dutt, who took out openers Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma early on. However, just as pressure began to build, Shivam Dube shifted the momentum decisively, unleashing a counterattacking knock of 66 off 31 deliveries.
"I think the way he batted in the middle overs took pressure off everyone and took it to 190 on this wicket. I think it was a very good score," Suryakumar Yadav added.
Defending 193, India’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance despite a spirited chase from the Netherlands. Netherlands fought hard, reaching 176 for seven in 20 overs, but India maintained control in key phases of the innings. Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav used seven bowlers, which Yadav described as a good headache.
"Sometimes it is a good headache to have. I have a lot of options in the middle. On a given day, whatever the wicket demands, they can chip in," he said.
