In the second match of the Big Bash League 2025–26, the Melbourne Renegades will take on the Brisbane Heat at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong, on Monday, 15 December 2025. This contest marks the first game of the season for both sides. Both teams begin their campaigns with fresh line-ups and hunger to improve on last year’s underwhelming performances. The Renegades and Heat narrowly missed out on finals in BBL|14; however, this opening game gives them a chance to stamp their authority early in the tournament.

The Brisbane Heat boast a strong squad, as Pakistani fast-bowling ace Shaheen Shah Afridi is set to make his Big Bash League debut in this match. Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and Michael Neser will miss this game as they continue preparations ahead of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide next week.

The Renegades too have a balanced squad. Mohammad Rizwan, another high-profile Pakistani recruit, bolsters their batting order and provides stability at the top. The Renegades will be looking for standout performances from seasoned bowlers such as Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye, who add experience to the bowling attack.
