Afghanistan name preliminary squad ahead of One-Off Test vs New Zealand, Rashid khan misses out

Afghanistan have named their preliminary 20-member squad for the One-Off Test match against New Zealand, scheduled to be played next month in Greater Noida, India. Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan is not part of Afghanistan’s preliminary squad. Rashid was last seen in action for Afghanistan in Test in 2021. 

Recently, Rashid played in the Shpageeza T20 league in Kabul, leading Speen Ghar Tigers. Hashmatullah Shahidi will be leading Afghanistan in the Test, which will be played from September 9 to 13. Afghanistan will leave for India on August 28 to undergo a week-long training. All-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai has been named in the squad and he is set to make his Test debut. 

"Twenty players have been selected for the training camp and a 15-member squad will be selected to play the only Test match against New Zealand after observing their performance and fitness," Ahmad Shah Sulimankhel, the chief selector said.

Afghanistan’s preliminary Test squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Abdul Malik, Rahmat Shah, Baheer Shah Mahboob, Ikram Alikhel (wk), Shahidullah Kamal, Gulbadin Naib, Afsar Zazai (wk), Azmatullah Omarzai, Ziaurrahman Akbar, Shamsurrahman, Qais Ahmad, Zahir Khan, Nijat Masoud, Farid Ahmad Malik, Naveed Zadran, Khalil Ahmad, Yama Arab.
